Episode #77: Jon Cheplak shares the top 3 things brokers/managers need to know about effective agent training.
I had the opportunity of meeting up with Jon Cheplak in San Francisco at this funky little place called Lori’s Diner.
Jon is one of the most sought after recruiting experts in real estate today and frankly, his client list reads the the who’s who of real estate today!
Now I have to warn you ahead of time that this video is a little edgy, rough and well … gorilla style … heck that’s what I do best but the message Jon shares is direct and powerful.
What many brokers and managers are asking themselves in this market is what makes for an effective training program – well Jon eloquently delivers the answer in three simple points.

Hi Michael,
Great content once again.
I agree totally with the concept, and have traveled for training – you’re preaching to the choir on this one.
However, real estate has always attracted independent thinkers (read loose cannons) and brokers have always been happy to provide little more than a desk and the back office stuff, letting everyone fend for themselves.
Not an environment for … “so what have you done this week Johnny?”
Also, from my experience, too often brokerages consider providing the training an income stream – the results of the training are an after thought.
I’ve only ever heard of 1 company that consistently tracked it’s agents performance. An independent company that has twice been named the Most Productive Company in America. .. maybe there’s something to it ???
Cheers .. keep the content coming .. I love it
Hey Dave,
I remember when I got into the biz in 1989 some of the in-house training programs were top notch but when commission splits switched in favor of the agents, the brokers had to cut back.
As independent contractors the responsibility is on us to stay current and ahead of the competition.
Sadly though all too many agents want it both ways – the biggest commission splits and free, broker sponsored education.
All Good Wishes,
michael
