NAR’s Top 30 Under 30 Shannon W. King and michael krisa discuss what to do before you attend your next conference.
I get to do a great deal of travelling to the many trade shows and conferences that our real estate industry has to offer.
What always sadly amazes me is the lack of attendance or interest that agents have at attending these events.
Where else under one roof can you have an opportunity to learn from some of the top trainers in the industry, rub elbows with the movers and shakers and best of all … build referral relationships with other top agents and brokers?
And you get to right all this off on your income tax!
Well top agent Shannon W. King is no stranger to speaking and networking and shares some of her strategies when it comes to getting the most out of any event.

Thank you again Michael for the great information I love the videos.
I would agree with Shannon after attending a few conferences myself, I felt there should have been more agents in attendance.
Hello Michael,
I can’t agree anymore with you that there seems to be a lack of interest in the real estate community as far as attending shows and conferences. I believe that this is a sign of times due, in part, to the introduction of the Internet that facilitates inter-personal communications between people and learning/training through highly specialized websites. In today’s society where we have a tendancy to isolate ourselves from each other, the Internet is fast and doesn’t require a person-to-person involvement/contact. The Internet also allows for anonymous interactions when one doesn’t want to be identified…in a matter of seconds
The other factor that plays an important role in the lack of attendance, is the “slow pace environment” while attending shows and conferences: you have to follow the organizors’ agenda, and most realtors (I believe) don’t want to wait that long when their cell phone/Blackberry rings because, in most cases, it’s a client calling…and nobody wants to keep a client waiting!
For my part, I attend shows and conferences because of the opportunities for interactions with other local real estate professionals when looking at information pertaining to former (local) market conditions, i.e.: details about background history on areas of prospects and building/neighbourhood situations . Market conditions change over the years and that type of information can only be known by talking to realtors who were exposed to sale marketc conditions at that time.
By and large, and due to technical innovations in social news media communications, the focus is essentially based on tomorrow evolution/changes with little left to historical facts in sales fluctuations. Today, at the click of a key, property information can be emailed…as a matter of facts, there’s no limit to the number of emails that can be sent out to interested parties! And that’s done without an exchange of words…
As modern society is emphasizing on individuals’ privacy, and isolation (“we live in cocoons!”), efficiency in the real estate industry is still depending on inter personal relationships. I’m affraid that the professionals among us who have forgotten this basic foundation of success, will eventually find themselves without the proper ability to communicate. Consequently, their survival, in this highly competitive real estate industry, will not be sustainable.
I really agree with the comments made on this interview. Networking is a huge part of the event.
Michael, you do a great interview and I enjoy watching and listening because your audio is so good…clear and crisp. I do not have to play it over and over to catch the words that were said. Thanks and keep them videos rolling.
Technology such as webinars, online meetings, and videos has decreased the cost of seminar type training. Avoiding travel and brick & mortar expenses and other issues has as well.
Hey Larry,
Absolutely but there is still something powerful about meeting face to face and builidng relationship in the flesh vs. in cyberspace.
Thanks for commenting.

Hey Geroges,
Thank you so much for the comment.
It’s so sad and true that those little wireless devices can be such an addiction/distraction to what really matters – connect with others and learning continuously.

I’m a Loan Officer and I generate my own leads – I’ve generated so many leads that I cannot find a realtor that focus’ on listings and selling rental property in Maryland to give these leads to…never thought I’d have this problem.
Every time I ask around Realtors hate working with renters and than i have unhappy purchase prospects….HELP!
